The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced the temporary closure of Public Boat Ramp on Recreation Road 255 next door to Umphrey Family Pavilion. According to Lake Manager Reece Nelson, the ramps will close effective 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Nelson said the reason is because of the rising lake level which will cause the water to go over the ramp aprons.
According to Nelson, it’s expected that the lake will rise another 6 to 8 inches through June 4th, and at that point it’s hoped that they can begin a drawdown of the lake, sending water down the Angelina River, joining the Neches River, and then into Dam B.
If all goes as planned, Nelson said it’s hoped that boat ramps can be reopened by July 4th, however, much of it depends on rainfall between now and then.
