The rider of a motorized bicycle is undergoing treatment after he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening. Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark says it happened shortly after 7:00 when 52-year-old Daniel Stevens, of Jasper, was riding the bicycle in the middle of Highway 63 East, a few miles east of Jasper.
Sergeant Clark said the bicycle had a flashlight attached to the front, but no rear lighting.
Clark said a car was behind the motorized bicycle followed by a pickup truck, driven by Mississippi resident John Taylor, age 24.
According to Clark, Taylor tried to pass the car - unaware of the unlit bicycle in the center of the highway - and he hit it.
Stevens was transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital, while Taylor was uninjured.
