Recovered stolen tractor investigation reveals even more thefts

Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby said Tuesday that the investigation into the weekend recovery of a stolen tractor has resulted in the discovery of even more stolen items. It all began on Sunday when deputies found two stolen tractors and a stolen trailer about 3 miles southwest of Newton. Sheriff Burby said they knew who one of the tractors and the trailer belonged to, but the other tractor, a Kubota L-3010 model, had not yet been reported stolen. Burby turned to the public on Monday to help identify who the tractor is owned by and that paid off on Tuesday morning when someone called the department and gave them that information. Burby said when deputies went to the owner’s location in the Plum Grove Community, it was discovered that an Apex brand travel trailer and several other items had also been taken. Burby says the travel trailer was later found and recovered. Now, Burby says criminal charges will be coming soon against those believed responsible for the thefts.
