Postal worker attacked by two dogs, Jasper County deputy saved her life

A Jasper County Sheriff’s Department deputy is being credited with saving the life of a female postal worker who was being attacked by two dogs late Tuesday morning. It happened at about 11:00 in the 300 block of County Road 110-A in the Curtis Community. According to Deputy Karli Cherry, Deputy Daniel Coons was at a nearby house when he heard a woman screaming. When he went to investigate he found the victim on the ground being mauled by the two dogs. Cherry said the deputy shot and killed both dogs. Cherry said Deputy Coons then applied a tourniquet to her right arm and bandaged her leg which were both severely injured. She was then rushed by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital and then flown by medical helicopter to a Houston hospital. There’s no update on her condition. Following the incident, Sheriff Mitchel Newman said “I am proud of Deputy Daniel Coons for acting quickly and tactfully to save this woman’s life. I hate to think what the outcome would’ve been had he not been in the right place at the right time. Ours prayers are with her as she recovers.”
