Port Arthur police say a man has confessed to recklessly firing shots on New Year's Eve that struck a three-year-old boy in the legs while he was playing in his backyard. Christopher Alvarado, 24, is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a 2nd Degree Felony. If convicted, he could face 2-20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. He's also charged with Deadly Conduct Discharge Firearm, a 3rd Degree Felony. If convicted of that charge, he could face 2-10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. We checked with the jail and learned was released from jail after posting total bond of $30,000. According to a probable cause affidavit for his arrest provided to KFDM/Fox 4 by Magistrate Marc DeRouen, police responded to a report of a child shot in the 800 block of Sabine Avenue at about 11: 45 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
