Polk County Jail inmate dies in custody

LIVINGSTON, Texas (KTRE) - An inmate has died while being held in the Polk County Jail. According to the release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the inmate died of natural causes on Saturday while being held in the jail. The release says a completed autopsy confirmed the cause of death as natural. According to the release, the inmate did not inform jail staff of his health conditions, and it is unclear whether the inmate himself knew of any preexisting conditions. The sheriff‘s office has not released the inmate’s identity as they work to locate their next of kin. The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.
