Jasper police and sheriff's deputies are searching for a couple who reportedly fled after the vehicle they were traveling in left the road and went into the trees alongside Highway 96, near the intersection of County Road 259 and Cat 5 Power Solutions on the north side of Jasper on Sunday.
Witnesses at the scene said the crash occurred shortly before 1:00 when an early model Lexus sedan, which was headed north on Highway 96, suddenly veered to the left went into the median area and then back across the road and into the woods on the east side of the roadway.
It was reported that as soon as the vehicle came to a stop a man and woman jumped out and ran through the woods and into a large pasture.
Police believe the suspects, which were said to be a Hispanic man and woman, split up and ran both ways.
Police are advising everyone in the area to lock their doors and secure all keys to vehicles.
