Police investigate alleged assault of teacher at Jasper High School

Jasper Police confirmed Monday that officers are investigating the alleged attack and assault of a teacher at Jasper High School. The incident, which is said to have involved a senior student is reported to have occurred on Thursday injuring 67-year-old Colleen Garcia, an English teacher at the school. Police say the incident was originally handled by the school resource officers and then turned over to detectives for follow up. Word is that officers are in the process of obtaining a warrant for the arrest of the senior. However, the name of suspect or other information has not been released, pending formal charges and arraignment. School superintendent John Seybold said Monday that he was award of the incident and the investigation. Seybold said "We are taking this very seriously. we cannot have incidents such as this in our school." Police say the case involving the teacher was not the incident at the school on Thursday. they say there was also a fight but additional details are not known.
