Police in Golden Triangle Investigate Discovery of Bodies

Police in Beaumont are still investigating the discovery of a body on the city’s northeast side, not far from the Neches River. Officers say the investigation into the death began on Monday morning, when the body of a man as found in a ditch 2500 block of Pine Street near Plum Street.

Jefferson County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Ben Collins Sr. said the body had been identified as Christopher D. Smith, 45, of Beaumont. However, how and why Smith died is unknown and Collins has called for an autopsy in hopes of obtaining more information concerning the death.

Police in Port Arthur are also continuing to investigate the discovery of body that was found late last week in a canal near Memorial Drive. Officers say the victim, 50-year-old Jesus Marin of Port Arthur had been reported missing by family members.

Judge Collins has also called for an autopsy in that case.
