Burkeville firefighters had a rather unpleasant fire to deal with on Monday. Fire Chief Charles Duckworth said it was a large pile of chicken manure that was smoldering and smoking. The incident occurred late Monday morning on County Road 1031 in the Farrsville Community. “Duckworth said “It stinks something terrible.” There’s no word on how the fire started, but these types of fires are not uncommon in piles of manure or other types of organic compost which heats up as it deteriorates.
