Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby says deputies are investigating after a person was shot on Halloween night in the southeast portion of the county. Burby says deputies responded at about 11:00 to a report of a shooting victim in the 400 block of County Road 4188 near Deweyville and arrived to find the victim with a gunshot wound to the hand. Burby said the victim was transported to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment. The sheriff said a person of interest has been identified and deputies are currently searching for that person. The names of those involved were not immediately available.
