The Orange County Sheriff’s Department says one of their deputies was assaulted and seriously injured, and the suspect was shot and killed. It happened Wednesday morning on Granger Lane in Orangefield. According to the department, a deputy was sent to that location regarding a mental health call and was then attacked by the person. At last word the deputy was undergoing treatment at St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for traumatic injuries to the face and head. The name of the deceased suspect or the injured deputy have not yet been released.

On Wednesday, September 4th at approximately 8:01am, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office received a call to dispatch regarding a male subject, who has a history of mental health issues, making threats towards neighbors. At 8:20am the Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on scene. The Deputy began speaking with the subject and a violent confrontation ensued. The Deputy discharged his firearm after being assaulted by the subject. The Deputy has been transported by ambulance to be treated for multiple injuries. The subject was pronounced dead at the scene. This is an ongoing investigation by the Texas Rangers. Orange County Sheriff’s Office is assisting at this time.
