One-year-old baby killed in early morning shooting

SHREVEPORT, La. - A one-year-old was killed early Sunday in Shreveport in a shooting that also sent an adult man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The homicide happened in the 71101 zip code and is the eighth in Shreveport this year.  The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office has identified the child as Karter Martin. He was shot in the head.  According to the Shreveport Police Department, the shooting occurred just before 4 a.m. at the Stone Vista Apartments in the 500 block of E. Stoner Avenue and Easy Street. Police say shots were fired shot into an apartment where Karter and his parents were sleeping, killing the toddler and wounding the man. Police said the suspects are multiple teenage males. "In a bid to solicit valuable information, we are releasing photographs of the suspect vehicle. We implore community members to come forward with any information that may aid in this investigation. Your cooperation and support are instrumental in bringing closure to this devastating incident and ensuring the safety of our neighborhoods," Cpl. Chris Bordelon said in a news release. "Anyone with pertinent information is urged to contact the Shreveport Police Department immediately. Chief Wayne Smith ask for citizens to stand united against senseless violence and work towards a safer, more secure community for all," he added. The KTBS 3 News crew on the scene counted as many as 20 markers on the ground, indicating multiple shots fired.  SPD does not have any information on the suspect in this case and are continuing their investigation.
