Newton Police Chief Will Jackson said Friday one suspect had been arrested and two others identified following an investigation into the kidnaping of a Newton man.
According to Jackson, the investigation began in October, when a man reported he had been kidnapped by two men, who forced him into a vehicle at gunpoint and drove him to a home in Huntington where they assaulted him.
The victim reportedly told Jackson that he was at a home on Woods Street in Newton, when he was approached by the men who forced him into the vehicle.
Following a lengthy investigation, warrants were issued for three suspects including Joseph Isaiah Smith, 22, who was arrested Thursday in Hardin County on a charge of Aggravated Kidnapping With a Deadly Weapon stemming from the case in Newton. Two other suspects remain at large.
According to the victim, the kidnapping was linked to a dispute over property.
