One person is undergoing treatment at Jasper Memorial Hospital for the injuries he received in a two-vehicle auto accident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon northwest of Jasper.
The volunteers of both the Angelina River and Lake Rayburn Departments, along with other emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Recreational Road 255 and County Road 44, just west of US Highway 63, shortly after 3:00, when it was reported that the accident involving a late model Hyundai sedan and a Peterbilt flatbed utility truck had occurred.
No official report has been issued by State Troopers, but witnesses at the scene said it appeared the crash occurred when the Hyundai pulled out from a driveway in the path of the eastbound truck, which was pulling a trailer loaded with a trenching machine and other equipment used for the installation of underground power lines.
After striking the car, the Peterbilt went off the road and into a ditch but stayed upright before coming to a stop. However, spools of power cable along with other equipment and supplies were thrown off the truck and trailer.
Firemen and others praised the driver of the truck for apparently doing all that he could to avoid the Hyundai and keeping the truck upright as it went off the road and into the ditch.
