Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard has confirmed that one person was injured and another is still on the run following an auto pedestrian hit and run accident that occurred late Wednesday evening in Newton.
Firemen and other emergency crews were reportedly dispatched to a location on Highway 87, near the Sunshine Grocery, when it was reported that the incident had occurred.
Newton Police Chief Will Jackson said the accident was thought to have occurred sometime between 9:30 and 10:00 and that a short time later the female was found in roadway by someone who called emergency dispatchers
Jackson said officers are looking for the driver of a vehicle that apparently left the scene following the accident. However, he said little if any information was known about the run away vehicle or it's description.
Chief Jackson said late Thursday that the victim, Ashley Wiseman, 40, of Newton was still undergoing treatment at a hospital in Houston.
