One person is dead following a rollover crash east of Jasper. It happened at about 4:30 Thursday afternoon on Highway 190 East, just east of the Goodman Prison Unit. Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark has identified the driver as 43-year-old William Lawson, of Newton. A witness at the scene - who asked that her name not be used - said that she was behind the person as he was driving very erratically, going back and forth across the road in a 2010 Chevrolet HHR SUV. The witness said she followed the vehicle from the railroad overpass on the east side of Jasper to the crash site and was on the phone with 911 and telling dispatchers what was happening. She said the vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and flipped over several times. Emergency medical workers from Allegiance EMS were quick to arrive at the scene and soon determined that the driver was dead. The volunteers of the East End Fire Department were also sent to the scene and assisted with traffic control and recovered the body from the vehicle.
