A suspect is dead after a car chase in Shreveport Wednesday afternoon.
The shooting is now part of a joint investigation involving Shreveport Police, Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, and Louisiana State Police.
Sheriff Steve Prator said that deputies began chasing the suspect around 5:30 p.m. because they believed the suspect was driving a stolen SUV.
During the chase the sheriff's office realized that the suspect was also part of a robbery call that police had received an hour beforehand.
The chase ended at Jewella Avenue and Greenwood Road. Deputies, police officers, and one state trooper were at the scene by that point.
Witness videos show that several shots were fired at the scene.
Sheriff Prator said that the investigation will determine who hit the suspect. He added that it appears that all law enforcement members followed procedure.
Interim Police Chief Ben Raymond and Sheriff Prator both said that there were reports during the chase that the suspect was pointing a gun outside of his car.
No one else was in the car with the suspect, and no officers were hurt during the chase or shooting. Police Chief Raymond said no civilians were hurt either and no buildings seemed to be shot.
Chief Raymond says they will be seeing if there is any surveillance footage of the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing.
