A Jasper man has died in an early Tuesday morning crash in Newton County. It occurred shortly after 5:00 on Highway 87 about 2 miles south of the Trout Creek Community.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Stephanie Davis said that 42-year-old Charles Westbrook III, of Jasper, was driving a 2006 Mazda passenger vehicle. Davis said Westbrook pulled out into the path of a southbound 2020 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Shaka Diaz Twine, 32, of Wiergate.
Westbrook was pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Justice of the Peace Dana Ashmore, while Twine was rushed by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
