One man dead and another in jail over a reported dispute over loud music in Beaumont

One man is dead and another in jail following a bizarre incident that occurred over the weekend in Beaumont. Police there say it all began shortly after 2:00 on Sunday morning, when Max Lee Keath, 45 of Mauriceville, who was apparently visiting a home on Cheryl Street, got his vehicle and drove to the nearby The Trace Apartments in the 3875 block of North Major Drive and ran over 38-year-old Christopher Matthews in the parking lot of the apartment complex, severely injuring him, resulting in injuries Matthews would eventually die from. Matthews was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital where he died on Sunday evening despite the efforts of doctors to save his life. Keath, who was tracked down after leaving the scene and arrested was originally charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. However, following Matthew's death on Sunday, officers on Monday presented evidence to a judge that resulted in Keath being charged with Murder. Officers investigating the incident believe the disagreement or altercation between the two men began when Matthews became upset with loud music coming from the neighboring home. In fact, they say prior to the incident, Matthews called the police department and complained about the noise. Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Ben Collins has set bond on Keath at Si million and at last word he remained in the Jefferson County Jail.
