One juvenile shot and another charged in Vernon Parish

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

The Vernon Parish Sheriff's Department says a juvenile was shot and another was charged in a weekend incident in the Knight Community, located in far southwest Vernon Parish. The shooting occurred late Saturday night, but deputies say they dealt with the people involved the previous two nights when they responded to complaints of loud music. According to investigators, it came to a head when a disturbance broke out among a group of juveniles and a carload of them started to leave. The report said that someone threw a rock at the car and busted out the back window. At that point, investigators said a 17-year-old male got out of the car and started firing gunshots at the house, one of which hit a 14-year-old boy in the arm. The 17-year-old was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, Illegal Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile, and Illegal use of a Weapon. The names of the suspect or the victim were not released. Meanwhile, the shooting victim is expected to make a full recovery.
