One in Custody Following High Speed Pursuit

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

One person is in custody following a high speed police pursuit on Sunday morning. It started at 8:35 on Highway 96 in Kirbyville, when a police officer there tried to pull over a vehicle, but the driver instead fled.

Jasper County deputies also joined in the chase as it continued northbound on Highway 96, and the Kirbyville officer reported that the suspect was fleeing at speeds of over 120 miles-per-hour.

The chase ended a few minutes later on Private Road 5095, about 5 miles north of Kirbyville, and a short time later, a Jasper County deputy reported that the suspect was in custody.

Kirbyville Police Sergeant Josh Hancock later said that the suspect had busted into his girlfriend's home and also smashed a motorcycle with a baseball bat.

However, Hancock said it happened in the Buna area and it just so happened that the Kirbyville officer spotted the suspect and initiated the chase.
