One in custody after armed robbery of a Jasper convenience store

Jasper Police say a suspect is in custody following a Tuesday night armed robbery of a convenience store. It happened at about 10:00 at the Jasper Jiffy Market on the corner of Highway 63 West and Farm to Market Road 777. According to Lieutenant Garrett Foster, a black male wearing a medical mask and all black clothing robbed the store at gunpoint, and then fled on foot towards the area of Prospect Road. Foster said a short time later, an officer stopped a vehicle leaving Prospect Road with a passenger that matched the description of their suspect, and that person was then confirmed to be the suspect. According to Foster, the money taken in the crime was recovered from him. The suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Lorenzo Ashton Thomas, of Jasper. He has since been charged with Aggravated Robbery, and his bond was set at $350,000.00 by Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Gina Cleveland. This same store was robbed at gunpoint on February 20th of this year. It was one of three convenience store robberies in Jasper during the same week, and no arrest was ever made.
