Old Beckville Elementary School total loss after fire

BECKVILLE, Texas (KLTV) - Several fire departments responded to a fire at a vacant school building Friday night. The fire was at the old Beckville Elementary School on Sunset. Firefighters with Beckville VFD, Clayton VFD, Tatum VFD as well as Carthage VFD responded to the fire. Beckville VFD Fire Chief Carl Anderson said they were called to the fire at 7:48 p.m., and arrived by 7:57 p.m. A total of 30 people were working the scene, with eight various trucks. Anderson said that several firefighters got overheated and had to step aside for awhile, but no one needed to be taken to the hospital. There were no other injuries. Firefighters cleared the scene by 8:54 p.m. Anderson said the building, which had not been used by the school district for years and was full of old papers and other materials, was a total loss. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
