The Northwestern State football team played its first game since the passing of safety Ronnie Caldwell. Caldwell was killed in a shooting near campus last week. Before the action against Southeastern it was a standard pregame warmup, but a constant reminder of who wasn't there. Head coach Brad Laird and the Demon coaching staff were wearing custom shirts with Caldwell's number 23 and players on both teams had helmet stickers with the initials RC. The NSU captains brought Caldwell's jersey to midfield for the coin toss and then placed the jersey on the 35 yard line. On the first play of the game, former NSU quarterback and current Southeastern Lion Zach Clement ran ten yards and placed the ball on Caldwell's jersey signifying his final tackle. Southeastern won the game 37-20.
