Local police and firemen said that it was miraculous that no one was seriously injured when a pickup truck pulling a boat and a sport utility vehicle collided on Sunday morning at the intersection of Highways 190 and 96 here in Jasper.
Three men were apparently on their way to or from a duck hunting adventure when they were suddenly involved in a part of the trip they had not planned for and ended up with the Ford truck they were traveling in laying on its side at the intersection of the two highways.
The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department arrived to find the truck on its side and sport utility vehicle severely damaged with a passenger still trapped inside alongside the vehicles were duck decoys, a shotgun and shotgun shells along, with a boat and camping supplies, were scattered across the intersection.
The firefighters, assisted with emergency medical technicians from Allegiance EMS immediately went to work and rescue the trapped passenger, which did not appear to be injured from the vehicle.
What caused the crash is unknown and still under investigation. However, one of the firemen at the scene said it appeared that one of the vehicles had ran a red light.
A couple in the sport utility vehicle, who were said to be from Kansas, did not appear to be injured. The driver and two passengers in the Ford truck only received minor scratches and scrapes when they kicked out the windshield and escaped from the overturned vehicle.
Travel through the intersection was limited or detoured for some time until the wreckage could be removed from the highway.
