There were no injuries, but emergency responders were dealing with a blocked highway for several hours on Thursday following an accident in the northern end of Newton County. Burkeville Fire Chief Charles Duckworth said the crash, involving an 18-wheeler, happened shortly after 4:00 p.m. on U.S. Highway 87 on the Yellow Bayou Bridge, about 5 miles south of Burkeville.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark later said that a 2015 Kenworth truck was southbound when the front-right tire blew out, sending the truck crashing into the bridge guardrail, which in turn ruptured the fuel tank.
A haz-mat crew had to be called in to clean up a diesel spill.
Meanwhile, Clark said the driver, Corey Lacy, 43, of Beaumont, was uninjured.
