The City of Newton on Sunday issued an urgent notice to local residents to practice water conservation after a water well pump failed. Meanwhile, the Newton Fire Department is worried about having enough water and pressure through city lines should a large fire break out.
According to the City of Newton, repair work began on Monday, and it could be Tuesday at the earliest or Thursday at the latest when they can fully restore adequate water service to the town.
Newton Fire Department Captain Karen Smith Landrum said Monday “We're praying we don't have any fires.”
