Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard says man is behind bars after he allegedly threatened a deputy with a shotgun and then attempted to assault him during a domestic dispute call.
Havard says the incident occurred on Tuesday evening shortly before 6:00 at a home on FM 2626 in Newton County.
According to Havard, Deputy Boyett responded to a reported civil dispute and made contact with Keve Cooper Blacksher Jr., who was involved in the situation.
“As Deputy Boyett attempted to gather information, Blacksher exited his residence waving a shotgun and demanded that the deputy leave his property,” Havard said.
The sheriff says despite repeated commands, Blacksher initially refused to comply. He eventually dropped the shotgun but continued acting aggressively.
Investigators say that Blacksher took aim with the shotgun, prompting Deputy Boyett to deploy his Taser.
Blacksher was taken into custody and transported to the Newton County Jail where he was charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, which is a first-degree felony.
Sheriff Havard praised the deputy’s response to the volatile situation.
“I am extremely proud of Deputy Boyett for his restraint and professionalism in handling this dangerous and rapidly evolving situation,” Havard said.
