Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby has given an update on a dog problem in Burkeville. This follows an incident on Sunday, December 4th in which 19-year-old Shelly Engel was attacked by a pack of sixteen dogs. According to Burby, the owner of the dogs, Alicia Ferguson, has been issued a citation and was given a warning to make necessary arrangements to contain her dogs. Burby said they were able to identify the two dogs that appeared to be the leaders of the pack. He said one was captured, and the owner took the other one to a veterinarian for "appropriate disposition". Burby says the owner is now telling him that she now only has six dogs left at her house.
