Following his arrest this morning Neil Patrick Broussard was booked in to the Calcasiue Correctional Center on charges of two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of second-degree kidnapping. Bond was set at $4 million.
Neil P. Broussard, suspect in the double homicide in Westlake yesterday was arrested after turning himself in to authorities this morning.
Catherine Hidaldo, who lives on Duraso Drive in Westlake reported the shooting to CPSO very early yesterday morning and told deputies that Broussard had kidnapped her 14 year old daughter. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Kyla Hildalgo (17) and Kaleb Charlton (18) had been killed and Catherine had been shot multiple times. She is still reported as being in critical condition in a local hospital.
The kidnapped teen was discovered yesterday morning exiting the woods in Ragley where law enforcement conducted a search since yesterday, complete with sheriff's office personnel from Beauregard and Calcasieu Parishes, K-9 units and aircraft.
In the press conference with Beauregard Parish Sheriff Mark Herford and Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso, both thanked the deputies that were on the ground all of yesterday and last night, the US Marshall's Office, the FBI, and Louisiana State Police.
Sheriff Mancuso stated that the pressure on Broussard was likely what caused him to surrender – he had no rest during this time as he was trying to avoid being caught.
This morning Broussard went to the Dollar Store in Ragley where the employees escorted customers out the door and locked Broussard inside.
Sheriff Mancuso promised transparency and to fill in the details once the investigation is complete – he did suggest there might be more arrests if Broussard had help.
