NATCHITOCHES, La. -- The Natchitoches Police Department has arrested a woman in connection with a fatal hit and run Sunday afternoon.
Kadaija Jackson, 24, is charged with manslaughter and hit and run. She's housed in the LaSalle/Natchitoches Parish Detention Center.
Natchitoches police responded around noon to a report of a pedestrian being hit in the 1200 block of Texas Street. They found Nekedra Rainey, 44, of Natchitoches, lying on the ground. She was taken to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told police the driver of a Nissan Sentra hit Rainey then left the scene. Officers canvassed the area and found Jackson's home. She was arrested without incident.
“I am thankful for the public’s assistance in providing information that assisted our officers in their swift location and apprehension of the suspect. I commend our officers and investigators for their quick actions and diligence that helped lead to this arrest," Police Chief Nikeo Collins said.
