NATCHITOCHES, La. -- A Natchitoches man who two years ago stabbed a LaSalle Parish man to death then left his body in an oxidation pond in Natchitoches will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty today in Natchitoches Parish District Court. Ad hoc Judge Brady O’Callaghan accepted Kendrick Cox’s guilty plea and imposed the life sentence. O'Callaghan also ordered the sentence to run consecutive to another life sentence he is already serving in an unrelated murder. Cox was arrested in August 2022 for first-degree murder in the robbery and stabbing death of Joshua Lee Humphries, 35, of Trout. Humphries was reported missing on Jan. 13, 2022. His vehicle was found abandoned in Natchitoches prior to the missing person’s report. On Feb. 2, 2022, Humphries body was found in an oxidation pond near the rear of Payne subdivision. His body has been in the water for several days. Cox was the subject of a six-month manhunt that ended in Lake Charles, where he was connected to the death of a 66-year-old Lake Charles man who was found dead in his home. Cox’s sentence in Natchitoches Parish is to be served without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. Natchitoches Parish sheriff’s Det. Jared Kilpatrick investigated the case. Special prosecutor Cliff Strider III prosecuted the case.
