NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - Nacogdoches police officers have arrested a man who was accused of sexually assaulting a woman on Tuesday.
Officers responded to a home on July 7 at approximately 1 a.m. after receiving a report from an adult female who stated she had just been sexually assaulted and that the suspect had fled the scene.
The suspect was identified as Tristan Venegas, 30, of Nacogdoches, who had previously been identified as a person of interest in an earlier report involving an alleged car theft.
A short time after that investigation began, officers received the sexual assault report identifying Venegas as the suspect.
According to the preliminary investigation, the victim reported that she and Venegas met at a local bar before returning to her residence, where the sexual assault occurred.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
Officers later found Venegas in the 100 block of South Street. Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, detectives developed probable cause to arrest Venegas for sexual assault, a second-degree felony.
Venegas was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
