Multiple departments battled a large wildfire on Friday evening in far northwest Jasper County. The blaze was reported as a brush fire shortly before 8:00 on County Road 37, near Private Road 6145 in the Homer Community, but it quickly spread across pastures and wooded areas.
The Angelina River Fire Department, which was first to arrive, soon began calling for assistance from both the Beech Grove, Lake Rayburn, and Jasper Fire Departments, along with the Texas A&M Forest Service.
The blaze was finally contained shortly after 1:00 Saturday morning after it had burned across at least 35 acres of land.
Firefighters staged to protect homes, and fortunately no homes were damaged.
It's not known what was the cause of the original brush fire.
