KFDM is reporting that the driver of the motorcycle was shot and killed early Tuesday morning near the small community of China, west of Beaumont.
Officers have said the incident occurred shortly after 1:00 when a deputy from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department spotted the motorcycle traveling east in the westbound lane of Highway 90.
Officers said that after the motorcycle stopped, the man on the bike pulled a gun and began firing at the deputy forcing the officer to return fire.
Deputies reportedly tried to administer CPR to the man before emergency personnel arrived but were not successful in saving his life.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Justin Chesson.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident but they have reportedly also called on the Texas Rangers to investigate the case.
Word is that the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation into the incident.
