Mom and son doing well after being rescued

The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network says a pair of dolphins – a mom and her baby son – are doing well after they had to be rescued a few days ago. The organization says the pair somehow became trapped behind a water-flow control structure in the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, just east of Galveston Bay. Officials say the pair, who they are now calling “Jack & Jill”, were in shallow brackish water with a very limited food source. The two were removed and transferred to their identified habitat in open water near Galveston Bay. Interestingly, the organization said the mother was already known to them and in their catalog. She was identified by unique notches in her dorsal fin. The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network says if you find a stranded, injured, or entangled dolphin, you’re requested to call them at 1-800-9MAMMAL.
