Mass shooting investigation continues, no arrests yet

Jasper County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Karli Cherry said late Monday afternoon that investigators are continuing to question people regarding the early Sunday morning mass shooting which injured nine teenagers from age 15 to 19. Cherry said that so far no arrests have been made in the case. Cherry said that Sheriff Mitchel Newman and Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan will be holding a press conference late Tuesday afternoon, and it's hoped that more information will come forth. The shooting occurred shortly after midnight at a home on County Road 263, where approximately 250 teenagers had gathered for a party after the Jasper High School Prom. Very little information is known about the victims. We do know that all were initially taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital, and at least one was transferred to a Beaumont hospital and another was transferred to a Houston hospital. Reportedly, a girl underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to her hand or arm, while a boy underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to his knee. Although some of the injuries were described as life altering, fortunately none were reported to be life threatening.
