Manhunt underway after fugitive Andrew Ancell spotted in Newton County

Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby says a manhunt was underway on Tuesday afternoon in the far north part of the county after a wanted fugitive was spotted. He is 38-year-old Andrew Ancell, and in recent weeks he has managed to elude capture despite multiple sightings of him at locations in Sabine County. Sheriff Burby says the latest sighting of Ancell was early Tuesday afternoon when he was seen walking along Highway 87 southbound into Newton County. According to Burby, tracking dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice were brought in and they led deputies to a location where Ancell had been staying. Burby said TDCJ was also bringing in horses to help with the ground tracking of Ancell. Ancell is wanted in multiple counties on burglary charges. Ironically, Sheriff Burby said Newton County is the only county in this region that doesn’t have warrants for the fugitive. Ancell is a white male with thinning blond hair and a deep receding hairline, blue eyes, 5'07", 140 pounds. If you happen to spot him, you’re asked to call 911 and report his location.
