Man who led law enforcement in a pursuit charged with multiple crimes

A man who led Jasper County deputies and Jasper Police in a pursuit on Tuesday afternoon has now been charged. Deputy Karli Cherry has identified him as 53-year-old Christopher David McKeen, of the Beech Grove Community. Deputy Cherry said it all began on Sunday when deputies were called to a report of an assault at a home on County Road 150. She said when deputies arrived, McKeen went inside the house and refused to speak to deputies. Meanwhile, the female victim of the assault was treated at the scene, and deputies later obtained arrest warrants for McKeen. Cherry said shortly after 4:00 Tuesday afternoon deputies spotted McKeen driving on Farm to Market Road 777 in the Beech Grove Community and attempted to stop him. However, he continued driving until he reached the intersection of FM 777 at Highway 190 West and stopped. According to Cherry, McKeen refused to get out of his vehicle and then took off leading them in a pursuit eastbound on Highway 190 towards Jasper. Cherry said he stopped again on Highway 190 near Lakes Area Veterinary Hospital and officers were able to get him out of the vehicle and place him in custody. McKeen later appeared before Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Brett Holloway and was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Resisting Arrest with a Deadly Weapon, Resisting Arrest, Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle, and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. His bond was set at a combined total of $149,000.00.
