Man who fled deputies on a motorcycle and foot has been identified

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department has identified a man who they said ran from a deputy on a motorcycle and then on foot Tuesday afternoon. Deputy Karli Cherry says he’s 35-year-old Jeffrey Slaydon, of Jasper. According to Deputy Cherry, warrants have been issued on charges of Evading Arrest with a Vehicle 3rd degree felony), Evading Arrest with a Previous Conviction (state jail felony), and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon (3rd degree felony). According to Deputy Chris Wade, he responded to a report of a motorcycle being abandoned in the woods at the intersection of Highway 96 and County Road 317, about 9 miles south of Jasper. Wade said someone in a pickup truck stopped and dropped Slaydon who then got on the motorcycle and started riding away. Wade said he attempted to stop the Slaydon, but instead he rider fled at speeds up to 115 miles-per-hour. As they approached the intersection with Farm to Market Road 1005, Wade said the rider went into the opposite lane going head-on into traffic and then tried to turn left onto FM 1005 at a high rate of speed. However, the motorcycle instead wrecked. He said Slaydon then fled on foot into a pine tree plantation.
