Man Suspected in Double Homicide Arrested

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.
Shreveport police have preliminarily released the identities of the couple found dead inside a burning vehicle last week in the Queensborough neighborhood. The IDs are being released to the public just a day after police charged a man with the killings. Police say the bodies of Kelly Jose, 43 and Heather Jose, 33, were discovered last Thursday in a burning vehicle in the 3400 block of Penick Street. Authorities suspect the couple was murdered after giving a ride to a man they met while out shopping. Saturday night, police were able to get a warrant for the arrest of Dewayne Wille Watkins, 34, along with a search warrant for his Penick Street home where he was later located. Some of the previous charges include drug and weapons charges to indecent behavior in a drug rehab Cherry Hill and property damage. With the assistance of authorities from the United States Marshals Office, Louisiana State Police, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Bossier City Police Department, Watkins was arrested following a standoff which lasted nearly six hours inside a home in the 3600 block of Penick Street. Watkins suffered minor injuries during the arrest after failed attempts to flee from officers. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Caddo Parish Correctional Center on a warrant charging him with two counts of second degree murder. His bond is set at $1,000,000.00. Through checking booking records with the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, KTBS 3 News has learned that this is Watkins's tenth time behind bars.
