Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles says one man underwent medical treatment and another went to jail after a shooting occurred late Saturday morning as two neighbors were involved in an argument over a dog.
Rowles said his deputies responded to a location off of Farm to Market Road 2460 in the Trout Creek Community and arrived to find the victim, Reginald Ashworth, with pellet wounds from a shotgun blast. Rowles said fortunately the injury was non-life threatening.
However, the suspect, 56-year-old Patrick Jerome Samuel, fled into a wooded area and remained at-large until late Saturday afternoon when Sheriff Rowles said he turned himself in.
On Sunday morning Samuel was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and his bond was set at $10,000.00.
