A Jasper man was jailed over the weekend after it was reported that he was drinking and driving erratically on Highway 190.
The first report came at around 5:30 on Sunday morning when emergency dispatchers at the Jasper County Sheriff's Department received a call from someone saying that a man was asleep at the wheel of a vehicle parked on the Dam B Bridge between Jasper and Woodville.
A short time later it was reported that the vehicle had been spotted driving at a very slow rate of speed on Highway 190, in front of Walmart here in Jasper.
However, deputies said that when they tried to stop the vehicle, the driver ignored all signals and kept rolling.
A short time later, the vehicle finally stopped and the driver Carlos Darnell Simmons, 43, of Jasper, was taken into custody and taken to the Jasper County Jail where he was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle.
