Sabine Parish Sheriff Aaron Mitchell of Many said late Friday that the body of a man who drowned near the Toledo Bend Dam north of Burkeville had been recovered.
According to Mitchell, the drowning occurred as the 22 year old from Denton, Texas and others were swimming near the spillway of the dam.
Sheriff Mitchell said agencies involved in the search and recovery of the deceased included not only a dive team from his department, but also the South Sabine Fire District, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, North Sabine Fire District, Sabine River Authority, Acadian Ambulance, and Life Air Rescue.
So far, the name of the drowning victim has not been released, pending formal notification of next of kin.
