Texas Parks & Wildlife game wardens on Saturday evening recovered the body of a man who drowned in the Neches River earlier that day. It happened near the Rockland Community in extreme north Tyler County. The victim has been identified as 71-year-old Herbert Eugene Dean, of Hillister. Game wardens say Dean was swimming in the river with family and friends when he apparently stepped off into a deep spot. He went under and never resurfaced.
