A Kirbyville man is dead following a single vehicle auto accident that occurred shortly after 3:00 on Saturday afternoon about 1 mile south of Kirbyville. Following the crash, troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety issued a report that said the accident occurred when a 2001 Dodge flatbed truck was traveling south on Highway 96 at a high rate of speed and swerved to the right to avoid striking the rear of a commercial motor vehicle. The truck went into a ditch and overturned. The driver of the vehicle, Kaleb Smith, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Gina Cleveland.
