The Texas Department of Public Safety says one person died as the result of an all terrain vehicle accident that occurred on Christmas evening on the south side of Jasper.
Sergeant Stephanie Davis of DPS said the crash occurred shortly after 8:00 at the intersection of Chris and Parker Streets in the Shady Acres Sub-Division. According to Davis, 40-year-old Sedrick Spikes, Sr. was operating a 2020 H'Sun Tactic 750 ATV and traveling at an unsafe speed on Chris Street, when he failed to negotiate a turn onto Parker Street.
Davis said the ATV rolled over and ejected Spikes.
Spikes was initially taken by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital and later to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston, where he died early Sunday afternoon.
