Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby has announced that a man has been charged following an investigation into a shooting that occurred late last month.
Burby says Gabriel L. Witmer is accused of shooting Jessica McCain at a location on Farm to Market Road 1416 in the Bon Wier Community on Sunday, May 29th.
According to Burby, deputies responded with EMS on a 911 call for medical assistance, but upon arrival they found McCain with a gunshot wound to the chin, and Witmer was also at the scene.
The sheriff says following the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for Witmer and he was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and False Report to Peace Officer. His bond was set at a combined total of $15,500.00.
