Jasper Police Chief Garrett Foster says a man is behind bars after a vehicle and foot pursuit on Tuesday morning.
According to Foster, an officer tried to stop a 2002 Toyota Camry for speeding on West Morris Street, but he said the driver, a 43-year-old black male Jasper resident Devin Clark, began fleeing. The chase lasted for several minutes until Clark finally stopped the car behind a house on Seale Street and he then took off on foot.
Foster said the department’s K-9, Mak, began following Clark’s scent trail and found more than 4 ounces of marijuana which they believe Clark discarded as he was running.
According to Foster, a short time later Clark was seen running across West Martin Luther King Boulevard near Adams Street and again the dog was put on his scent trail and led officers straight to him and he was placed into custody.
Chief Foster said Clark was booked into the Jasper County Jail on a charge of Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle and he has more charges pending.
